In day to day life there is a lot of noise; cars, people, plains, noise from building sites etc… and an array of unidentified sounds, that just seem to blur into the background… Occasionally there are noises that sound kinda like a small explosion… Most times you can put it down to something logical; a car accident, train detonator or some kid with a firecracker….Occasionally though, i have noticed something rather odd!…Sometimes people who i happen to be standing near; when i am at a petrol station, in traffic, or just out shopping; seem to have some forewarning of when its going to go off…I hear comments just before the bang, like; "are you ready", "boom", "blastoff"; accompanied by wide expectant smiles, but…sometimes they appear a little upset
I have also noticed this sound in some rather unusual settings… A few years ago I was parked in a corporate park, at the side of the road in my car, trying to do some study – the only place i could get some apparent quiet – don’t ask Anyway, to cut a long story short, a security guard became suspicious and began to survey my car. After asking me a couple of questions, he was obviously satisfied and turned to walked away. I was on his patrol route so he passed me a couple of times more and we smiled at each other in a friendly manner. On his last patrol, as he walked past my car and off into the distance, with his back to me, I heard him say in jest "Well…Are you gunna move or arnt ya?"…Just then there was the biggest explosion i have ever heard in my life… but very obviously used for humour, it had the identical sound to a circus cannon, only it must have been the biggest one ever made…and i’m not joking
The only sound i remember hearing after that was the security guard chuckling "have you got the point?".

On another occasion i was over at my parents house for a couple of days – as i couldn’t get any sleep at home for the whole month before – noisy neighbours – don’t ask!… Anyway it was evening, and i was watching a bit of tv downstairs… Suddenly, there was a huge explosion that seemed to emanate from within the house, all the floorboards shook, the walls shook, and particularly the chimney going through the middle of the room shook…It had that same circus cannon sound… I still have this image of the cat jumping straight up, literally a full metre into the air. I have been in an earthquake before in LA, and although the house only moved for a half a second, for that short period of time, it felt nearly the same. My father raced downstairs into the room, he could barely contain himself from giggling. Trying to keep a dead pan face he says, "did you hear something?" :-/
So why do people do this? Can you fill me in? Or am i missing something?
